"GEMS" is an acronym that means "Girls Everywhere Meeting the Savior." It's a 50 year-old ministry in our denomination that is geared toward girls in grades 2-7.
We meet every other Thursday night at the church to worship and do a Bible lesson/devotional, work on crafts and badges, and generally have a lot of fun. A highlight of our year is our annual camp in June.
Some of the badges that have been completed this year are horsemanship, baking, cooking, bicycling, petcare, hiking, golf, sewing and relationships with friends and others. We also do an annual theme badge that we all participate in. Our theme this year is "Prayer--No Worries".
Some other service projects we are involved in supporting are: the Seafarers Ministry, making "hygiene" bags for our Youth Mexico Missions Team to hand out on their mission each spring in Tijuana, Mexico, and special events for fathers and daughters and mothers and daughter.
Groups are divided by age and each group has two counselors who lead their group in devotions and badges, but the counselors do so much more as they mentor our young girls in their walk with the Lord.
Our meetings begin each fall in September or October and end in June. They are every other week and start at 6:45 and end at 8:30 when parents pick their daughters up from the church.
