Morning Services

The Sunday morning service follows a rather consistent pattern. Changes to the format of the service will change during the lead up to Christmas (Advent) and Easter (Lent). Generally the second Sunday of the month Communion is served. When a baby is born into the church family, a Baptism is built into the service. This generally follows soon after the birth. Services generally last ninty minutes; but some have known to go close to two hours.

Children are released to go to Children's worship about twenty minutes into the service.

The format of the service generally follows this pattern:

  1. Gathering Prayer:  There may be a few annoucements but the "Gathering Prayer" signals the start of the service.
  2. Greeting: God Greets us and we greet each other. (Shake hands with those seated around you.)
  3. Call to Worship: A reading from Scripture. Usually a few verses from a Psalm.
  4. All Sing: This begins a time of singing led by a Music team at the front of the church. Our church loves to sing! Usually three songs are sung.
  5. Confession of Sin: An opportunity to reflect and consider where we failed to meet God's expectations for us and to accept God's gift of forgiveness.
  6. A Song of Confession: A song is selected that allows the participant in the service to use the poetry and music of another to help focus on confession.
  7. Words of Assurance: The Worship Leader will take a few moments to read a selection or two from Scripture to remind those who feel burdened by the events of the past week, to receive words of Comfort and Forgiveness.
  8. Songs of Assurance: Two or three songs that celebrate the wonderful life we may have in Christ even if the recent events in our life have been painful and hopeless.
  9. Offering: Everyone has the opportunity to give to give money to the Church's Budget and some designated need in the world or community. (See "Giving Schedule" link). During the offering a musical selection will be played. Usually on the piano. The offering is received in bags rather than plates.
  10. Song: This song prepares our minds and hearts for a time of prayer and teaching.
  11. Family Prayer: The Pastor or an Elder will lead the service in a prayer that touches the lives of those present in the church. This takes about 10 minutes.
  12. Scripture Reading: This reading will form the basis for the sermon that is to follow.
  13. Sermon: Pastor Bill usually provides a sermon that lasts 30 to 40 minutes in which he explains the passage and applies it to the lives of the congregation.
  14. Song of Response: Generally fits the theme of the sermon.
  15. Parting Blessing: The Pastor invokes a blessing that has been used for thousands of years by Pastors to their church.
  16. Closing Song: Generally has a parting sense to it, like a Benediction.
  17. Congregation departs: This is generally a joyous time of greeting others and having a cup of coffee. Many will stay over thirty minutes at the end of a service to socialize.
