Building community with our ‘family’ in Tijuana, Mexico, has become a major part of the culture at Langley Immanuel. The Youth Mission Trip is now a cornerstone to the Youth Ministry. Its purpose is two-fold:
1. Reach out with the Gospel of Christ, serving others as His hands and feet in Mexico, for Christ and His glory
2. Through impacting cross-cultural experience, to enhance the global perspective of youth to what God is doing around the world
Each Spring Break (March), youth Grade 10-12 participate in the Youth Ministry’s most anticipated event of the year! But it is so much more than 10-12 days away. Fundraisers, team builders, coffee dates/”interviews”, mixed-ages prayer groups, and more start months before departure day; an incredible amount of community and ministry-focus is fostered during all this. Young adult jr. leaders and leaders exercise developing mentorship skills. It builds momentum for the entire Youth Ministry. Youth and Leaders grow closer to each other, and especially closer to God.
It’s important the team makes the most of the trip, helping as much as possible, engaging in daily morning devotions and evening chapels, and experiencing a wide-variety of ministry opportunities from VBS and street dramas to visiting families and completing special renovation or labor projects.
Youth teams have been going since the mid 1990’s, and the ministry has experienced fresh growth since 2005. In 2009, the church sent a team of 26, made up of 18 youth and 8 leaders. In 2010, we enjoyed a team of 50, made up 37 youth and 13 leaders. Will you join us next spring?
